Vinylthon 2023 This Weekend!

• This weekend, April 22 & 23, across America and the world, an unprecedented 170 radio stations in 12 countries will celebrate the unique format of vinyl records by going vinyl-only on the air for Vinylthon 2023 — the first-ever weekend Vinylthon event. The list of participating stations is posted here.

Organized by the non-profit College Radio Foundation and open to all radio stations, commercial and non-commercial, Vinylthon is an industry-wide fundraiser supporting vital Next Step Radio Scholarships for students who are currently involved in college radio and who aspire to become professional radio broadcasters.

This year’s Vinylthon event has support and audio content for participating stations from artists including John Gourley of Portugal. The Man (the official ambassador this year), along with Arum Rae, Atmosphere, Josh Ritter, Lovelytheband, Magic Giant, Myron Elkins, Ripe, O.A.R., Tegan and Sara, Welshly Arms and many more artists. Participating radio stations will also be able to broadcast a special show recorded at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.

Vinylthon founder Rob Quicke, a professor of communication at William Paterson University of New Jersey, noted, “This is our biggest year yet — a two-day weekend event! We also have the most stations ever participating, with the whole goal to raise money to support the next generation of radio stars, so it’s an important cause too.”

Participating stations that broadcast at least 24 hours of vinyl-only content will be presented with the prestigious 2023 “Golden Slipmat Award” to formally recognize their deep passion for vinyl — a pair of golden slipmats made by official sponsor Glowtronics, exclusively for the event.
