WCSX: Alphabetically Awesome

• This weekend, Beasley Classic Rock 94.7 WCSX/Detroit is putting a fresh twist on the old tried-and-true “A-Z” theme weekend by creating a letter-by-letter soundtrack for the Motor City.

RAMP caught up with the mastermind behind this unique concept, Scott Jameson, VP of National Content and Director of Programming for Beasley Detroit, who explained, “I wanted to do it differently — not just do a list of songs, but to actually create content and audience engagement connecting the rich history of Detroit’s iconic rock stars and local celebrities with our radio station.” To that end, Jameson contacted several influential Motor City celebrities and offered them the opportunity to host specific letters of the alphabet throughout the “A-Z Weekend.” Detroit’s own Tim Allen kicked off the festivities by hosting the letter “A” coinciding with his new show, Assembly Required. (get it?)

Other local luminaries who have graciously agreed to host their own letters this weekend on WCSX include Wayne Kramer from the groundbreaking Detroit band, MC5; Ted Nugent; Alice Cooper; Darren McCarty, 4-time Stanley Cup Champion with the Detroit Red Wings and Mickey Redmond, the longtime voice of the Red Wings; Suzi Quatro, Don Brewer from Grand Funk and the Silver Bullet Band; WRIF legacy air talent Ken Calvert and many more. Other artists have provided custom song intros along with stories about Detroit’s extensive rock heritage, and comedian Craig Gass will also make a special appearance as “Gene Simmons.”  The action begins promptly on Friday at 6am. Be there. Stream along at wcsx.com.
