WFLZ/Tampa Makes A Wize Choice

• iHeartMedia Tampa Bay has tapped company veteran Nick Wize as the new APD/pm driver for Top 40 WFLZ. Wize earns the sweet transfer to sunny Tampa Bay after a year with iHeartMedia Tucson, where was APD/afternoons for Top 40 KRQQ and APD of Rhythmic KOHT (Hot 98.3) & Hot AC KMIY (My 92.9).

Wize starts July 1 and succeeds Brandon “Buster” Satterfield, who leaves this week to assume his new gig as PD of WIOQ (Q102)/Philadelphia. Tommy Chuck, SVP of Programming for iHeartMedia Tampa Bay and PD of 93.3 FLZ, said, “I’ve known Nick for years and have seen his love for radio up close. He’s creative, driven and has performed at a high level throughout his career. I’m excited to have Nick by my side as we continue to build on 93.3 FLZ’s incredible 30-year history!” Wize exclaimed, “I couldn’t be more excited to join the incredible team in Tampa,” said Wize. “The passion and dedication they have for their brands is undeniable. Wize arrived in Tucson last May after a stint as APD/MD/afternoons at iHeartMedia Top 40 sister WKQI (Channel 955)/Detroit. He also worked across the street at former CBS Radio Top 40 rival WDZH (98.7 AMP Radio). Wize was also co-host/producer of the night show on the former WNOW (92.3 Now)/New Yorkand he worked for iHeartMedia Jacksonville as cluster Digital PD and afternoons on Top 40 WKSL (97.9 Kiss FM).

• In his earlier on-air incarnation as “Stylz,” Wize hosted Stylz In The Morning at Powell Broadcasting Top 40 WPFM (Hot 107.9)/Panama City, FL — which prompted this awesome real-life story from Tommy Chuck, who recounted to RAMP, “Seven years ago, Nick drove from Panama City to hand-deliver a pizza to me. He was campaigning for the WFLZ night job at the time. On the pizza was written, ‘Hire Me TC.’ I didn’t hire him at the time (what a jerk), but I did recommend him to iHeartMedia Jacksonville, who did hire him.”

Chuck added, “I’ve kept my eyes on him ever since… and last week I had this pizza delivered to Nick….”
