WNSH/New York Becomes 94.7 The Block
• UPDATED: After a morning of staff goodbyes on Audacy’s WNSH (New York’s Country 94.7), the station flipped to Classic Hip Hop as 94.7 The Block, “New York’s New No. 1 for Throwbacks,” featuring classics from Jay-Z, Fugees, Rihanna, Snoop Dogg, Beyoncé, LL Cool J, The Notorious B.I.G., Mary J. Blige, etc.
“94.7 The Block will provide a compelling soundtrack for New York’s biggest music fans, offering songs and artists that are synonymous with New York’s iconic hip-hop culture and that still strongly resonate with listeners today across all generations,” said Chris Oliviero, SVP/Market Manager, Audacy New York. “This was an opportunity to add a quintessential New York sound to our audio portfolio that has been missing in the area, while at the same time continuing to engage with our New York country audience thru HD and digital platforms.”
94.7 The Block is currently rolling through 25,000 throwbacks in a row, commercial-free. More programming details and local on-air talent will be announced in the coming months. The previous Country format will remain available on WNSH-HD2 and via the Audacy app and website.
• The former WFME and WRXP/New York flipped to Country in January 2013 under previous owner Cumulus, which was in the process of rebranding all 83 of its Country properties as “NASH” — hence the WNSH calls that debuted shortly thereafter. In early 2019 WNSH was part of a six-station swap between Cumulus and Entercom — Entercom took over the operation of WNSH via LMA on March 1, 2019 and quickly jettisoned the NASH branding in favor of the more basic Big Apple descriptor, “New York’s Country 94.7.”
• As of Monday, Oct. 25, RAMP was able to confirm that now-former WNSH PD John Foxx and midday talent Katie Neal remain with the company. Kelly Ford‘s current status remains unconfirmed. However, RAMP has confirmed that, as a result of the flip, Jesse Addy, MD/afternoon drive for the entire eight-year lifespan of WNSH has exited and is now available. Addy was also handling PM drive at WKIS/Miami and hosting Audacy’s Country Top 20, airing companywide. Prior to landing in NYC Addy enjoyed an eight-year run at WDVD/Detroit and had a prior on-air role at WWWQ/Atlanta. He can be reached at 517-614-1447 or jesse.addy@gmail.com.
