WPLJ Farewell Starts Today
• On the heels of last week’s emotional reunion that was attended by some 400 current and former staffers, the grand finale is growing near for the staff of Cumulus Hot AC WPLJ/New York, which, like Hot AC sister WRQX (Mix 107.3)/Washington, is scheduled to transfer to EMF at 7pm this Friday, May 31.
Leading up to that moment, RAMP has learned that WPLJ is NOT planning to go away quietly. As we used to say in the old days (in the ’80s), “Get ready to roll tape,” as we have confirmed with PD Dave LaBrozzi that WPLJ has planned a massive two-day farewell celebration of its storied 48-year history featuring an unbelievable on-air cavalcade of ‘PLJ personalities past and present.
The action kicks off at 9am today with a parade of WPLJ legends like Scott Shannon and Patty Steele, Jim Kerr, Shelli Sonstein, Carol Miller, Mark Coppola, Pat St. John, Fast Jimi Roberts, JJ Kennedy, Joe Nolan, Dave Stewart, Christine Richie, Brad Blanks, Bobby Valentine and more TBA!
Tomorrow, May 31, the current WPLJ staff — Todd Pettengill & Jayde Donovan, Melony Torres and others will be on the air to say goodbye, with afternoon personality Race Taylor taking you right up until 7pm, at which time WPLJ will sign off for the last time.
PS: Own a piece of radio history — order the final commemorative WPLJ T-shirt today while supplies last!
