Bex Leaving Matty, Returning To Philly
• In a not-so-surprising turn of events — given recent circumstances — Rebekah “Bex” Maroun returned to the Matty In The Morning show on iHeartMedia’s WXKS (Kiss 108)/Boston Wednesday after a few weeks off to formally announce she’s leaving the show and moving back home to Philadelphia.
Bex had been M.I.A. from the show since that now infamous May 20 incident, when host Matt Siegel returned to the air the day after he had gone off on an advised riff castigating Demi Lovato over their announcement to come out as non-binary, and then abruptly signed off mid-show. When Siegel returned the next morning, he turned his ire on Bex for not posting that previous day’s show online (a decision made by management). While she was attempting to explain, Siegel cut her off, saying, “You need to stop. Turn your mic off. Turn it off. Turn it off.”
Bex was named Executive Producer of Matty In The Morning in Sept. 2018, arriving from Philadelphia, where she had spent four years in various roles on 96.5, most recently afternoons on Audacy Hot AC WTDY (96.5 TDY). Before that she co-hosted the morning show on CBS Radio’s former WZMP (96.5 AMP Radio) and its predessesor, Beasley’s WRDW (Wired 96.5). Bex also hosted a sports segment on 94 WIP SportsRadio, served as an entertainment reporter for KYW NewsRadio 1060 and assisted in the launch of The Hot Minute segment on CBS 3 TV. She was also a producer for the syndicated Weekend Throwdown with Jagger.
• On Wednesday morning, Bex returned to the show, basically to say goodbye and thanks. “I wanted to just come in and be honest. I’m actually moving back home,” she said. “When I moved to Boston, I wanted to make it home, and I wanted to be here, and spend the rest of my life here, and honestly, when COVID hit everything in my life sort of changed. I realized how much I missed my family and my friends and being surrounded by the people that I wanted to be close to, and it made me value time a little more. I appreciate everything that you guys have done, and it has been such a privilege to be part of this show. It’s bittersweet, but I’m excited for what’s to come.”
