Kannon Aimed At Dallas Again

The adjoining cities of Dallas and Ft. Worth are celebrating the long overdue return of market fave Kannon, who is coming off the bench and taking command of afternoon drive on iHeartMedia Hot AC KDMX (102.9 NOW)/Dallas, effective June 1. Mr. Kannon most recently spent two years co-hosting the morning show across the street on CBS Radio’s KVIL until January of this year. Before that he enjoyed a three-year run over on Cumulus Media’s KLIF (Hot 93.3).

In making the big announcement of Kannon’s acquisition, PD Jay Shannon said, “We are very pleased to add a well-known local personality to our afternoon drive slot. Kannon is a familiar name that has been on the radio in Dallas-Ft. Worth for several years and he understands how to connect with listeners as well as what it takes to be successful in this market.”

Kannon began his radio at the age of 15 in Raleigh, NC, doing the weekend/overnight show on WRDU. He later went on to work at WBTS/Atlanta and WJBQ/Portland, ME, and notably spent eight years with former Beasley Rhythmic WRDW (Wired 96.5)/Philadelphia prior to moving to Dallas in June 2012. Commenting on his new gig, Kannon said, “102.9 NOW is a powerhouse here in Dallas-Ft. Worth and I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the community’s drive home. It’s a great honor to get to work with Jay, the community and my new family at iHeartMedia here in Dallas. I’m ready to get started.” Kannon will continue to host the United Stations-syndicated Open House Party. You may recall that Kannon had been hosting the show’s Sunday night edition, but earlier this year was awarded the Saturday show as well, succeeding OHP‘s legendary creator, John Garabedian, who stepped down in January.
