Laughlin Retires, Miller Upped @ WJBC

Scott Laughlin, longtime morning host of The Voice Of Central Illinois on Cumulus News-Talk WJBC AM 1230/Bloomington-Normal, IL announced his retirement from radio. Laughlin broke the news on-air Thursday morning, saying, “I had planned to retire next summer. My circumstances have speeded up that plan.” On May 10, Laughlin announced he was taking a leave of absence from the WJBC morning show for health reasons. He has now made the tough decision to make his leave permanent.

Laughlin also announced that he was passing the WJBC morning baton to magnificently mustachioed afternoon host Scott Miller (pictured, below),who recently inked a new multi-year deal with Cumulus. Miller will now plug in across from WJBC News Director Katherine Murphy, who remains in morning drive.

Dan Westhoff, Operations Manager of Cumulus Bloomington-Normal, commented, “We wish nothing but the best for Scott Laughlin as he focuses on his health. Emotionally, it’s not easy to move forward in a situation like this, but we must. We look forward to having Scott Miller in the morning and know he will do a great job.”

Miller, whose Chicago radio resume includes Oprah Radio, WGN-AM, WDRV (97.1 The Drive) and Merlin Media’s former WWWN (FM News 101.1), said, “I’m honored to follow in the morning drive footsteps of Don Munson and Scott Laughlin on The Voice Of Central Illinois. I have never felt more a part of a community than I do here… and the Central Illinois pork tenderloins are the size of my head! WIN WIN!” A search for an afternoon replacement is now underway.
