Lee Harris Leaving 1010 WINS/NYC

• A seismic shift in New York morning news radio is afoot, as RAMP has confirmed that Lee Harris, who has anchored the morning shift at Audacy’s All-News 1010 WINS/New York since 1995 is leaving, effective this Friday, May 5. We understand that Harris has accepted a position with Nexstar Media Group’s NewsNation, and details are expected to be announced shortly.

Harris’s impending departure was announced in a staff memo from Ben Mevorach, Audacy NY VP of News, which begins, dramatically enough: “Six words I never thought I would write… Lee Harris is leaving 1010 WINS.”

Mevorach continued, “For nearly 30 years, Lee has occupied the morning drive slot at WINS. Day in and day out he spoke the language of most New Yorkers. He could be funny, irreverent or sarcastic. He viewed the world and everything in it with a healthy dose of skepticism, often pointing out the absurdity of a story or sound byte along the way. He could be biting and caustic and incisive. By definition, he had a mordant wit. He is a New Yorker through and through.”

In closing, Mevorach noted, “Lee is not retiring. In fact, his work life is far from over… just the insane 3am wake up is coming to an end. Mr. Harris, thank you for almost thirty years of being the signature voice of the greatest news station that ever was. It was a magnificent ride.” [Photo from Twitter]
