Major Moves: KROQ’s Kat, KOOL’s Peake

• Kat Corbett, longtime midday goddess on The World Famous KROQ/Los Angeles surprised her legions of fans when she announced she was stepping down from the 10am-1pm airshift she has occupied since 2005. On a brighter note, Corbett clarified that she will remain with the station and continue to host her specialty programming and do fill-in work.

Concurrent with Corbett’s departure from middays, RAMP has confirmed that KROQ will extend the existing jock shifts after The Kevin & Bean Show ends at 10am — Nicole Alvarez will do 10am-2pm, followed by Stryker & Kevin Klein, driving you home from 2-6pm and Megan Holiday will entertain you from 6-11pm.

Corbett broke the news via Facebook, exclaiming, “It’s time to shake things up! After many years (14, 15?) hosting middays at KROQ it’s time to chase other passions. I will continue to program and host KROQ Locals Only, KROQ To The Rescue, the Local Commute and fill in on occasion, blah blah blah, but this frees me up to concentrate on other creative endeavors like writing, voiceovers, etc. As you can see, you can’t get rid of me that easily.” She added, “This is a good thing. A great thing, and I’m very happy.” In conclusion, Corbett said, “I can’t thank my KROQ family enough for all their support. Thank you for listening all these years, and for loving music, locals and rescue. There’s still lots to do!” Corbett joined KROQ some 20 years ago as a part-timer and assumed command of the midday shift in 2005.

• In an equally surprising story, RAMP has also learned that Tom Peake is relinquishing his midday shift at Entercom Classic Hits 94.5 KOOL/Phoenix after nearly 40 years! According to The Arizona Republic, Peake, who joined KOOL on Sept. 1, 1979, is hanging up his headphones but will remain with the station as MD, a title he’s held since 1985.

When reached via Facebook Messenger, Peake told the Republic, “Fair to say that it wasn’t my idea, but I understand why, and I have no bad feelings or regrets.” He added, “I’d just like to say that I have nothing but the utmost respect for the station and the people in it…” Peake continued, “I’m not going to be on the air any longer but, I’m still working with KOOL scheduling the music, and will be for the foreseeable future. I’ve been the luckiest guy in this business, and I hope I’ve been able to put a smile on some peoples faces along the way.” In the wake of Peake’s absence from the on-air scheduled, we expect the remaining KOOL dayparts to be reconfigured.
