Mike Hsu Back Behind The Mic
• Stand by for the formal announcement, but were thrilled to read that Mike Hsu, best known and loved for his 20 years of service on the late, legendary WAAF/Boston, will soon be back on the radio — this time on Cumulus Classic Hits WWFX (100 FM The Pike)/Worcester, MA. A nice in-depth piece in the hometown Worcester Telegram reports that Hsu will now be heard on The Pike weekdays from 6 to 8pm and 4 to 7pm on Saturdays.
Earlier this year, Entercom sold 50-year-old Rock mainstay WAAF to Christian broadcaster EMF, and it was Hsu, along with his longtime colleague Mistress Carrie, who presided over WAAF’s emotional sign-off on Feb. 21.
It just so happens that Cumulus Regional VP Bob Goodell used to be WAAF’s Regional Marketing Director back in the day, and as he told the Telegram, “As sad as I was to see my alma mater and legendary rock station WAAF go Christian music, it gave us the opportunity to add Mike Hsu, one of WAAF’s best DJs, to our staff at 100 FM The Pike. [Pike PD] Chuck Perks and I both know and respect Mike’s knowledge of rock music, his roots from living in Worcester and his talent. As the Who said, ‘Long live rock!'”
RAMP reached out to a clearly energized Hsu, who told us, “I’m just thrilled to be back on the radio, especially in my hometown of Worcester. This is a great city and I’m glad to be able to contribute to the community. Thanks to Bob Goodell and Chuck Perks — both WAAF alumni — for making this happen!” [Photo courtesy of Mike Hsu]
