Laura Pushing ‘Unsurvivable Storm Surge’

• As you read this, Hurricane Laura was making landfall right between Port Arthur & Beaumont, Texas and Lake Charles, Louisiana as an extremely dangerous Category 4 storm, packing maximum sustained winds of 150 mph. According to this dire warning from the National Hurricane Center, Laura is expected to cause catastrophic damage and what is being described as an “unsurvivable storm surge” that could penetrate up to 40 miles inland from the immediate coastline, as depicted in this frightening graphic posted by The Weather Channel.

For some historical context you didn’t want to hear, 2005’s killer Hurricane Katrina was a Category 3 storm when it made landfall.

Hundreds of radio stations across the region have already transitioned into wall-to-wall emergency mode and are broadcasting potentially life-saving storm information. It goes without saying that the American Red Cross will need all the financial resources it can get during this most challenging time. If you have the means, please consider donating to the @RedCross. To make a $10 donation, simply text LAURA to 90999. Thank you.
