Ft. Wayne’s Wake-Up Call

• Federated Media Hot AC WMEE/Ft. Wayne, IN this week introduced its new morning team, consisting of 50% new and 50% familiar folks — the new guy is Colin Matthews, who segues from mornings at Cumulus Country WMDH (Nash FM 102.5)/Muncie, IN, and the familiar face is Renee Cummings, a six-year WMEE veteran who moves up from nights and weekends.

“Everyone at Federated Media is very excited to have launched a new morning show on our heritage Hot AC 97.3 WMEE,” OM Jimmy Knight tells RAMP. “I’ve known Colin for a few years and have been trying to lure him here unsuccessfully… until now! Renee started her radio career calling into Boomer’s afternoon show on 97.3 WMEE. He insisted I hire her. Since I did, from day one she has put in the work and earned the spot anchoring morning drive. I believe Colin & Renee will be Fort Wayne’s choice in morning drive for the foreseeable future!”

Colin and Renee succeed the previous morning duo of Nichole Roberts and Andy Beckman, who left in June — Roberts is now focusing on her role as a fulltime mom, while Beckman is returning to his former radio home across the street on Sarkes Tarzian AC WAJI (Majic 95.1). Read on….

• And after a nine-year run in mornings over on WMEE, Andy Beckman (left) is making his triumphant return to where it all began for him — Sarkes Tarzian AC rival WAJI (Majic 95.1), where he will plug in as the station’s new morning personality, beginning September 8.

“I feel like I’m coming back home,” Beckman said. “Majic 95.1 is where I started in the radio business, and I’m very excited to be back!”

Lee Tobin, GM of WAJI, Classic Hits WLDE, ALT 102.3, and 99.5 The Twenty FM, remarked, “I’ve known Andy personally for almost 20 years, and he’s a great person, great family man, and an incredibly funny guy. We are very happy to have him back on the Majic 95.1 team!”
