Robertson Leaving The River After 48 Years

• It’s the end of a remarkable five-decade run — at the same station(!) — for Mark Robertson, morning show host on iHeartMedia AC WYKZ (98.7 The River)/Beaufort, SC/Savannah, GA, who announced that, after a 50-year radio career, the last 48 spent with The River, he is retiring, effective this Friday, July 11. Robertson (left) broke his news via video posted to Facebook.

Robertson, who also serves as Production Director for the cluster, arrived in the market in August 1977 and has been associated with 98.7 through a number of owners (Capstar, Chancellor, Clear Channel, iHeartMedia), and several call letters/identities — WBEU & WQLO (98.7 Lite FM), for example.

Robertson will be replaced in mornings by another longtime South Carolina radio pro — Andy Woods (right), who most recently worked for Midlands Media Group Country WUDE (94.3 The Dude)/Columbia, SC as Brand Manager and afternoon host. The new gig marks an iHeart homecoming for Woods, who notably spent 19 years at iHeart Country 97.5 WCOS/Columbia, rising to APD/MD/afternoon talent before he was one of many downsized during last summer’s extensive round of restructuring.
