Semi-Retired Chille Joins ‘The Big WECK’

• Last Friday Buffalo radio icon Joe Chille announced his departure as full-time Brand Manager and morning host on Townsquare AC WMSX (96.1 The Breeze)/Buffalo after many years with the station and its predecessors to enjoy semi-retirement.

Monday it was announced that Chille has agreed to keep his hand in the business and do 3-6pm weekdays — a part-time position — on Radio One Buffalo’s 1230 WECK (also available at 100.1, 100.5 and 102.9), now rebranded as “The Big WECK — Buffalo’s Oldies Station,” and consulted by Buffalo Broadcasters Hall of Famer Tom Langmyer, President & CEO of Great Lakes Media.

Radio One Buffalo President & CEO Buddy Shula said, “We’re really excited to continue to grow our locally-owned, operated and programmed WECK with Joe Chille on our team — and we’re thrilled to have been able to secure the services of Great Lakes Media to lead us through this evolution and also the re-tooling of our programming and music as ‘The Big WECK.'”

Concurrent with Chille’s hire, current afternoon talent Bobby O is promoted to fulltime Production Director/weekends; market vet Tom Donahue returns to mornings, Roger Christian shifts to middays, and OM/PD Glenn Topolski is handling nights. “I can’t wait to start my next chapter at WECK, so why not start right away,” Chille remarked. “I’ve known Buddy Shula, Tom Langmyer, Glenn Topolski and my fellow personalities for way longer than I can remember, all longtime friends. It’s time now to sleep in a bit and I’m ready to play oldies on The Big WECK.”
