Stroke Of The Week
The man who sports the awesome radio name Stroke Mastro is our current RAMP Leap Of The Week™ leader in the clubhouse — yesterday we told you Mastro had resigned as PD/MD/morning personality at Magic Broadcasting II Active Rock WYYX (97X)/Panama City, FL (Market 225) after 13 years, and was making the whiplash-inducing leap upward (and westward) to Entercom Active Rock KRXQ (98 Rock)/Sacramento (Market 28).
Today, RAMP confirmed Mastro’s major move, as the memo from Entercom Sacramento VP of Programming Jim Fox reads, “98 Rock has hired Stroke Mastro for afternoons. Stroke joins us from WYYX in Panama City, Florida where he’s currently Program Director and morning show host. Stroke was an obvious standout among hundreds of candidates for afternoons on 98 Rock. He will be the centerpiece for 98 Rock’s new afternoon show. Stroke is creative, resourceful and dedicated to winning — a perfect fit for 98 Rock. He’s married with three children. As I type he and his family are preparing for their move to Sacramento. His first day in the building will be June 12th.”
In a farewell memo to the troops, Mastro said, “I started my radio career in 2004 at 97X and it’s not easy leaving home. I’m appreciative that I was able to have grown as a talent and programmer at Magic Broadcasting II through the years. I plan on making my exit professional and wish nothing but the best to Magic Broadcasting II.” RAMP spoke with Mastro as he and his family were en route to Sacramento, aiming for that June 12 start date. As Mastro told RAMP, “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Jim Fox. He’s one of the most brilliant programmers in radio. In addition, our philosophies of what makes great radio are very similar.”
