• Jacobs Media and Podcast Movement have joined forces to custom-design a radio track at the upcoming Podcast Movement 2017 on August 24 in Anaheim, CA. These sessions will focus on how radio companies, stations and personalities can succeed in this emerging space. The “Broadcasters Meet Podcasters” track on Thursday, August 24 will culminate with the “Podcast Makeover” session, which features live on-stage airchecks of two podcasts by broadcasting and podcasting professionals. The panelists include: Richard Davies, co-host of the How Do We Fix It? podcast; Mignon Fogarty, host of the Grammar Girl podcast and founder of the Quick and Dirty Tips podcasting network; Samara Freemark, Sr. Producer for APM Reports and the In The Dark podcast, and broadcaster Tom Leykis, host of The Tom Leykis Show.

Two podcasts will be critiqued during the session: Engaging Story, a podcast about marriage, hosted by husband and wife team Matt and Rebecca Mundt, and The Mist, an exploration of the intersection of drugs, cults and cultures, hosted by Nate John. Jacobs Media’s Digital Dot Connector Seth Resler returns to moderate the panel for the second year in a row. Podcast Movement 2017 runs August 23-25 at the Anaheim Marriott in Anaheim, CA.

• And in a related story, research guru Dave Van Dyke announced the release of a new Bridge Ratings study that dissects the podcast listener base into segments that reflect the level of their engagement and use of the medium. Listeners fall quite naturally into four user groups: Heavy users, Occasional, Light and very Light (or Grazers). This new study also gathered feedback regarding advertising in podcasts and how these four user groups perceive advertising.

The results of this eye-opening study will be presented at this month’s Podcast Movement conference in Anaheim. The new report is posted on the Bridge Ratings website.
