Ventura’s Shining Star: Sommer Frisk
• The Ventura, CA Chamber of Commerce will recognize outstanding achievements of businesses and individuals who make a difference in that community this Thursday, Dec. 11 at the 28th annual Poinsettia Awards Luncheon at the fashionable Marriott Ventura Beach.
Awards will be presented in a number of important categories, like “Large,” “Midsize,” and “Small Business of the Year,” Non-Profit of the Year,” “Citizen of the Year,” “Volunteer of the Year,” and “Ambassador of the Year.” Of particular note to us is the deserving honoree as “Shining Star of the Year” — none other than Sommer Frisk (left), longtime VP/Market Manager of Cumulus Media Oxnard/Ventura, CA.
When asked about her proudest moments of 2025, Ms. Frisk immediately points to one theme: leaning in to Ventura County while leading the #hardestworkingteaminshowbiz. As an active member of the Ventura Chamber of Commerce and BNI’s Network of Champions, Frisk has been a driving force for both businesses and nonprofits — standing behind more than 40 local organizations and hundreds of advertisers this year alone.
Frisk notably brought “small business to the big stage” this year with the return of KHAYFEST at Camarillo Airport, headlined by Justin Moore — 100% locally produced, with proceeds going back to FoodShare and Ventura County first responders. Frisk and her Cumulus team also partnered with Vitalant on the Veteran’s Day Blood Drive, played a key role in bringing Kane Brown and Ziggy Marley to Ventura, and collaborated with community partners to boost downtown business through the first-ever CA & Main Summer Stomp and the launch of Movies at the Mission.
And in a year full of concerts and community events, Sommer Frisk also delivered on safety — completing the Red Mountain Emergency Alert System auxiliary antenna project, giving Ventura County critical backup communications when disaster strikes. From the stage to the streets, from local shops to community causes, Frisk’s work in 2025 shows she isn’t just part of Ventura — she’s helping shape its future.”
