Everything Is Awesome In Knoxville
• SummitMedia was busy in Knoxville on Monday refocusing Classic Hits WNOX into an ’80s-based entertainment center — say hello to Awesome 93.1 — “Totally ’80s and More,” specially formulated for East Tennessee featuring such decade-appropriate artists as Madonna, Journey, Duran Duran and Michael Jackson, etc., as well as a handful of select hits from the ’90s. The rebranded station is similar in texture to SummitMedia’s recently launched ’80s sister station WJSR (Awesome 100.9)/Richmond.
Also new to the Knoxville market is the nationally syndicated Ace & TJ Show in morning drive. The Ace & TJ Family brings the full slate of platforms to SummitMedia, including radio, podcast, streaming, video, social media, email content, app/web and live events. “Our consumers want and need an escape, and that’s what this new station delivers,” said Randy Chase, SummitMedia’s EVP of Programming. “From Gen X’ers to Millennials, we know that these songs will recall great memories. • In a related development, SummitMedia sister KRVI (106.7 The River)/Springfield, MO, “Totally 80s & More” is now airing the Ace & TJ Anytime option, one of three versions of the show available, along with live 5-10am ET and as a stand-alone, digital 24/7 personality asset with The Ace & TJ Show Plus.
