Classic Hits Come To Johnstown, PA
• New Jersey-based Zip2, LLC and consultant-to-the-stars Bob Hamilton have joined forces to bring the sweet, well-tested sounds of Classic Hits to Johnstown and Western Pennsylvania on WKGE-850AM and a newly launched translator at 101.3 FM. Operating under the banner, “Favorites of the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s,” WKGE’s new programming targets the important 35+ adult demographic.
According to Hamilton, who heads up Hamilton Communications, “Classic Hits for Johnstown is the ticket, with a better variety of Johnstown’s greatest music along with local involvement of community projects.”
The stations were acquired by Zip2 Executive Manager Edward Schober in January 2017 and have undergone extensive renovation of both the transmitting facilities and a new studio located in Lower Yoder Township. Schober notes, “We have rebuilt the old 850 AM station WKGE that covers Cambria and Somerset counties and paired it with a great new FM signal at 101.3 that covers Cambria very well. Our programming will feature music from Johnstown’s heydays of the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s, along with all the news, weather, etc. that you expect to get from a local radio station.” Schober says plans to add local personalities are being firmed up. Until the staff is in place and trained, Douglas J. Neatrour will continue in his local role as Project Manager.
PS: Hamilton recently began consulting Sunnylands Broadcasting Soft AC KHCV (CV104.3)/Palm Springs, CA.
