Dalbec Called Up To The Show
• As a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan with an active subscription to MLB.TV, I enjoyed watching the Sox beat the Washington Nationals on Sunday. One standout game highlight was the appearance of a young man making his major league debut — Bobby Dalbec, who was called up from Pawtucket on very short notice. Young Mr. Dalbec certainly made an impression in his inaugural game, as his very first major league hit was a two-run homer that wrapped around Fenway’s legendary “Pesky Pole” and into the right field seats.
It was only until later that we realized that Bobby Dalbec is the 25-year-old son of longtime Atlantic Records’ Denver-based VP of Promotion Tim Dalbec, who accurately described Sunday as “an out-of-body day for Bobby, my wife Liz and our daughter Julia.” In a conversation with Tim, he told us, “Sunday was an unbelievable fire drill of a day for Bobby — he went to work at the Red Sox alternate site in Pawtucket, RI, and had just finished batting practice around 11am when the manager called him in and said, ‘Pack your stuff and get to Fenway right away — if you get there in time you’ll probably start.’ The clock was ticking because the game was at 1:30!”
Dalbec continued, “Bobby packed his stuff at the ball park, drove to the hotel in Pawtucket to throw his things in a bag, called his mom and I to fill us in, and had to deal with us crying, trying to focus on the road while processing the biggest news of his baseball career. By the time he got close to Fenway the word was out and his phone was blowing up with calls and messages from old teammates, friends and family, and he wound up missing two exits and had to double back to the ball park, arriving just 40 minutes before the game. He barely got changed and made it to the field to run a few sprints and have a quick catch with the second baseman before starting at first base for the Boston Red Sox! When his first MLB hit was a two-run home run in the 3rd inning we absolutely lost our minds at our house! We were so fortunate to get such a warm outpouring from our Atlantic family and so many friends in Radio and Promotion.” The Boston Globe has a great account of Dalbec’s Red Sox debut.
