Brown Touches Down In Charleston
Kathy Brown is trading in St. Louis for Charleston, SC, as the 20-year radio programming pro has been appointed as Program Director for Cumulus Urban WWWZ (Z93 Jamz) and Urban AC WMGL (Magic 107.3)/Charleston, SC. Brown spent the past three years in the Gateway City as PD of iHeartMedia Urban KMJM (100.3 The Beat) and Gospel KATZ-AM. Before that she was APD/MD of CBS Radio Urban WVEE (V103)/Atlanta, but Brown is probably best known for her 14-year run with Radio One Washington-Baltimore as OM/PD of Urban AC WMMJ, Inspirational WPRS (Praise 104.1), WWIN-AM/FM, WERQ (92Q) and WOLB/Baltimore, and later as Regional Program Director overseeing Urban AC stations in DC, Baltimore, Richmond, VA, Augusta, GA, Detroit and Los Angeles.
Bill West, Operations Manager of Cumulus Media Charleston, said, “Kathy is a pro and I’ve already been inspired by hearing her ideas for our brands here in Charleston.”
Brown commented, “I’m very excited to join the Cumulus team in Charleston and embrace the programming direction from VP Ken Johnson. Charleston is full of great tradition and heritage and I’m looking forward to making great radio history! What a wonderful opportunity to continue to grow and learn and give back to the community.” Brown succeeds Terry Base, who exited in January after nearly 20 years with the cluster. Base is still exploring his options and can be reached at 843-452-9733 or radiobaseman@gmail.com.
