Tucson About To Wake Up Differently
• Big changes are coming to mornings on Arizona Lotus Corp.’s heritage AC KMXZ (94.9MIXfm)/Tucson, as it was announced that morning personalities Greg Curtis & Meredith “Mere” Dunkel have decided to step away from the Greg & Mere morning show to spend more time with their families and to pursue other interests. Their final broadcast will be Friday, May 27.
Debbie Wagner, GM of Arizona Lotus Tucson, said, “The entire Arizona Lotus Family want to thank Greg and Mere for their many contributions to the continued success of 94.9MIXfm and Tucson radio over the years. We also want to recognize them for the positive impact they have made in our community through their numerous fundraising efforts including the Children’s Miracle Network Radiothon and Mix FM’s Holiday Harvest Food Drive. We will miss waking up to their fun and entertaining show and wish them all the best in their new life adventures.”
Curtis has been Mix’s morning anchor since 2007, after stops at KZPT/Tucson and WBMX & WODS/Boston. Dunkel joined the show in 2017 following stints at WTMX/Chicago, KSTP/Minneapolis, KQBT/Austin, KKFR/Phoenix, and KMGA/Albuquerque.
In a joint statement, Greg & Mere said, “We have the most fun with the MIXfm audience every morning, which makes leaving so hard! Ultimately the decision to go was about spending time with the most important people in our lives. We’ve both given every moment of our waking hours and personal lives to morning radio for decades, and like so many other people these last couple of years, we took an honest look at ourselves and where we were allocating our time. So here we are saying ‘Thank you’ to the amazingly kind audience of 94.9MIXfm, who show up to support Tucson every time we ask. We also want to thank the outstanding Tucson business community who’ve supported our show with their ad dollars, and especially Debbie Wagner and the AZ Lotus Corp fam who’ve always been supportive of our show — which means so much.
In closing, the duo said, “[OM/PD] Larry Mac saw our potential early on and gave us the chance to build a new show for Tucson. It’s been awesome ever since — laughing out loud with (and at) each other every morning has been a goal we both hoped for but never knew chemistry of this level could exist inside a radio studio. What a blast!”
• With the countdown clock now ticking loudly, Larry Mac has now issued a nationwide alert to find a worthy replacement, and is now accepting applications from QUALIFIED, EXPERIENCED individuals who are worthy enough to become the next 94.9MIXfm morning host.
As the copy reads, “We are looking for a creative person who can work as part of team; relate to the activities of the station and topical community events & news, has a positive attitude and thinks forward with regard to the radio station, its promotions, its position in the community and radio in general. Candidate should also have a solid knowledge of different social media platforms. Production skills a plus. Individuals and already in place teams encouraged to apply. Tucson is a beautiful place to live, and we are looking for the right fit and chemistry. Interviews will begin immediately.
