Behold, The Healing Power Of Music
Against the tragic backdrop of yet another London terror attack on Saturday that left 7 dead and 48 wounded, Ariana Grande‘s ambitious One Love Manchester concert united the world on Sunday. As thousands jammed the Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Ground and millions more watched across the globe, the music industry defiantly stood together to demonstrate our collective strength and solidarity.
The list of performers was impressive — Marcus Mumford, Take That, Robbie Williams (who struggled to get through his signature hit, “Angels”), Pharrell Williams, Miley Cyrus, Niall Horan, and Imogen Heap, to name a few. After an inspiring speech from her manager, Scooter Braun, Ariana took the stage to perform “Be Alright” and “Break Free,” leading into Little Mix. Grande, who appeared throughout the entire show, also joined the Black Eyed Peas for “Where Is The Love” and performed the Crowded House classic, “Don’t Dream Its Over” with Miley. Grande also performed with Victoria Monet and Mac Miller.
Katy Perry performed “Part of Me” and the inspirational “Roar,” followed by an unexpectedly emotional acoustic set from Justin Bieber. Coldplay‘s Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland came out and performed the Oasis anthem, “Don’t Look Back In Anger” before rest of the band joined in on “Fix You,” “Viva La Vida” and “Something Just Like This.”
As the show neared its conclusion, we finally got half of the rumored Oasis reunion we were promised, as Manchester’s own Liam Gallagher appeared on stage to a roaring reception and cranked into “Rock and Roll Star.” He also performed his solo hit, “Wall of Glass” and was joined by Chris Martin for “Live Forever.” With all of the artists rejoining Ariana onstage, she closed the show with “One Last Time” and the perfectly appropriate “Somewhere Over The Rainbow.”
