Urban One Selling In Charlotte

• It’s the end of the line… apparently… for heritage Hot AC WLNK (The Mix 100.9 / 99.3)/Charlotte, as Radio One announced it was selling both WLNK and simulcast partner WMXG to separate Christian broadcasters. The staff was informed on Monday.

A staff memo from CEO Alfred Liggins, obtained by RAMP, reads, “Today we announced that we have entered into agreements to sell two stations in our Charlotte market — WLNK and WMXG — to Bible Broadcasting Network and the Augusta Radio Fellowship, respectively. As part of their missions, the buyers plan to transition the stations to Christian formats after closing.”

The memo continues, “Because of this change, some roles in the Charlotte market may be impacted once the transitions occur. No decisions have been finalized, and there are no immediate changes to roles, schedules, or day-to-day responsibilities. The stations will continue to operate in the normal course during the FCC approval process, which typically takes 60-90 days.”

RAMP has learned that the following full-time WLNK staffers have been informed they will be leaving: morning host Matt Harris (who just celebrated his 25th anniversary with WLNK), co-host Liz Luda, and afternoon talent Madison James.

Last month, in what turned out to be a triumph of perfect timing, longtime WLNK PD Neal Sharpe announced his retirement.
