Jay Michaels Circles Back To Indianapolis

Indy is familiar territory for Michaels (one of several in our fine industry), who notably spent 2012-18 with Cumulus Indianapolis as PD of Classic Hits WJJK and Top 40 WRWM (i94)-turned Classic Hip Hop 93.9 The Beat-turned Top 40 WYRG (Energy 93.9) — now Active Rock WNDX (93.9X). More recently Michaels was Asst. Brand Manager of Audacy Hot AC KHMX (Mix 96.5) and Adult Hits KKHH (95.7 The Spot)/Houston and tracked afternoons for Hot AC sister WMYX (99.1 The Mix)/Milwaukee and Audacy’s Channel Q until he was one of many downsized in July 2025.
The news of Michaels’ hire was shared in a staff memo from Sean Copeland, PD of B105.7 and Hank FM, which reads, “Jay has been a friend since his first stop in Indy, and I’m thrilled to have him back in the market and on our team. He brings a rare combination of programming acumen, creativity and on-air talent, along with a real understanding of what makes great local radio. Jay is one of those people who instantly makes a station better, and we couldn’t be happier to have him joining us.”

Michaels broke his news in a Facebook post that reads, in part, “The timing of the universe is magical sometimes. As one chapter in my life wrapped up in July, another chapter presented itself. My most favorite moments of my professional life were spent in Indianapolis. With two #1 stations in their demo at the same time (WJJK and 93.9 The Beat), and the magical moments of launching The Beat; and some of my most favorite moments of my personal life were spent in Indianapolis… so, it seems perfect to start this next chapter in Indianapolis.” Michaels can be congratulated at jaymichaels@radio-one.com.
