Dallas Hearts Houston
• Cumulus Country duo KPLX (99.5 The Wolf) and KSCS (New Country 96.3)/Dallas-Ft. Worth brought Broken Bow Records artist Dustin Lynch to Cowboys Red River Dance Hall in Dallas on Tuesday, Sept. 12 for a benefit concert to raise money for the American Red Cross Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.
The sold-out crowd was “Seein’ Red” as Lynch performed a 90-minute set for the nearly 2,600 fans in attendance, raising $25,750 to help those affected by last month’s Hurricane Harvey. The concert was Lynch’s idea following the announcement of a cancelled show. Lynch wanted to treat fans to a special performance which they could show their Texas pride and help those in need. • Radio One Urban KBFB (97.9 The Beat)/Dallas certainly came through in a large way in its Hurricane Harvey relief efforts for the hard-hit city of Houston. What started out as one 18-wheeler ended up as four trucks filled with much needed food, medicine, school uniforms and supplies for the Houston area. The trucks arrived on Sunday at the Del Mar Field House in Houston where staffers from Radio One’s Houston stations — Rhythmic KBXX (97.9 the Box), Urban AC KMJQ (Majic 102.1) and Top 40 KROI (Radio Now 92.1) helped unload and process all of the donations with the help of some local hip hop celebrities, including Paul Wall, Lil Flip & Z-Ro.
The event, which was dubbed “DFW For H-Town” is just one of Radio One’s initiatives called “Rebuilding Houston, One Family At A Time.” These donations will help the families, students, faculty, and staff for the Houston Independent School District that were affected by Hurricane Harvey. Another event will be held this Saturday to help distribute the donations to people directly in need.
