4 Million Extra Jimmies, Please

The Jimmy Fund, Boston’s WEEI Sports Radio Network, NESN, and the Boston Red Sox are proud to announce that the 16th annual WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon presented by Arbella Insurance Foundation raised more than $4 million for adult and pediatric cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The inspirational two-day event was broadcast live from Fenway Park on Tuesday, August 15, and Wednesday, August 16, from 6am to midnight and featured personal stories from Dana-Farber patients, doctors, care providers and researchers. The campaign has raised nearly $50 million since its inception in 2002.

This year’s WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon featured a special local guest — Academy Award-winning actor Casey Affleck, who also threw out the honorary First Pitch at the Red Sox/Cardinals game on August 15.

“It’s truly humbling to witness firsthand the generosity that comes from the people of New England, year-after-year,” said Joe Zarbano, PD of WEEI. “Once again, the WEEI-NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon rallied the community together around amazing stories of hope, courage and strength. We’re looking forward to this great New England summer tradition continuing in 2018 as we surpass the $50 million mark in our collective fight against cancer.” Pictured, (l-r): Phil Zachary, VP/Market Manager, Entercom Boston; Joe Zarbano; Sean McGrail, GM of NESN; Rose Marakian, NESN Coordinating Director; Beverly Tangvik, President of Arbella Insurance Charitable Foundation and Larry Lucchino, Chairman of The Jimmy Fund.
