Help Ken Carson Get Well!

• Our thoughts are with Ken Carson, who has retired from his position as OM of LM Communications’ Active Rock WYBB (98 Rock) and Triple A WCOO (105.5 The Bridge)/Charleston, SC, as he once again battles prostate cancer.

On March 19, Carson was re-diagnosed with Gleason 9 advanced prostate cancer, which was originally treated at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. To help meet his mounting medical costs, Carson has established a GoFundMe page, which details his immediate challenges — “Doctors in Charleston, SC have started a second regimen of Chemotherapy. Chemotherapy, surgery and radiation treatments have left a slew of medical bills, including $7,000 a month for his chemo drug. Fortunately his insurance covers 80% of basic medical needs however specialty drugs such as chemo are not covered, requiring personal funding. 100% of any donation will go toward immediate and future medical bills and alternative homeopathic treatments. Carson and his family are hoping to raise enough money so he may return to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center for further treatment.” Carson tells RAMP that the good folks at TJ Martell have stepped up to offer their invaluable assistance to help him locate a specialist for a second opinion.

Fortunately, LM Communications’ owner Lynn Martin is keeping Carson on the payroll in the newly created position of consultant, and together, they will help locate and hire a new OM. Qualified candidates are urged to email their packages to bill@jacobsmedia.com, and use “Charleston OM” in the subject line.

As the last line in Carson’s GoFundMe page so poignantly states, “Ken spent 43 years in the radio broadcast industry and is a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many. Please pray for his complete recovery.” You may also reach out to Carson personally at 828-279-5784 or ken@radioofcharleston.com.
