Condolences: Rich Malone

• Rich Malone, longtime Operations Manager for Yavapai Broadcasting and PD/morning personality for Triple A KVNA-FM (100.One)/Flagstaff-Prescott, AZ, died on Saturday, October 6 after a two-year battle with cancer. He was only 54 years old. The sad news was shared with us by veteran programmer Dennis Constantine, who for the past few years has been consulting Yavapai Broadcasting and doing afternoons on KVNA-FM.

Malone, whose real name was Richard D. Nearing, was born in West Covina, CA in 1964, and his family moved to Tempe, AZ when Rich was 10. He began his radio career in 1986 at KMGN (formerly Magic 93.9)/Flagstaff, AZ while studying radio at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. Nearing went on to spend nearly 30 years waking up Northern Arizona at various radio stations in the Prescott/Flagstaff market, and he had served as Operations Manager for Yavapai Broadcasting since 2000.

Nearing is survived by his loving wife Julianne and two stepchildren, Heather and Peter, his mother, Barbara Nearing, sisters Sherry Lee and Nanci Mizell as well as brother-in-law and mentor Dan Lee.
