Chromebooks Like Gold For Students

• iHeartMedia’s mighty WXKS (Kiss 108)/Boston and the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents just launched “Kiss 108’s Chromebooks For Kids” — a fundraising campaign to purchase a bunch of Chromebooks for local students to use at home and in the classroom.

This school year has ended much differently than anyone could have anticipated, to put it mildly. Teachers and students have become more heavily reliant upon technology to continue their education as Massachusetts shifted to at-home learning. A recent study conducted by the Department of Education found that over 100,000 students lack access to technology at home to participate in remote learning.

The “Chromebooks For Kids” initiative was announced Tuesday morning on the Matty In The Morning show with the help of couple of special guests — legendary Boston recording artist/philanthropist, Michael Bivins (New Edition, Bell Biv DeVoe), and Dr. Brenda Cassellius, Superintendent of Boston Public Schools. “Our public education system has the responsibility to provide high quality education to each and every one of its students,” said Tom Scott, Executive Director for The Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents. “Unfortunately, during this pandemic, not every child has the benefit of technology. Remote learning will continue to be an important part of every child’s education and every child deserves the technology to be successful.”

Dylan Sprague, SVP of Programming for iHeartMedia Boston, remarked, “When classroom learning resumes, the need for Chromebooks remains paramount. Access to technology is vital for students’ success. Kiss 108 and our listeners understand the importance of education as a foundation of future success.”

From now through Labor Day weekend, Kiss 108 will encourage listeners to text “SCHOOLS” to 36413 or visit Kiss108.com/Schools to make a donation and support students in the community. Starting in August, Kiss 108, the Department of Education and Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents will begin the delivery and distribution of the new Chromebooks to students and schools. “Kiss 108’s Chromebooks For Kids” is sponsored by Tufts Medical Center.
