Corson Leaving RCA For WBR
This rumor has been circulating for a little while, and no one is commenting on the record just yet, but we have every reason to believe the accuracy of the story that appeared Monday in Variety that says RCA Records President/COO Tom Corson will be crossing the street to Warner Bros. Records in a role TBA. The New York Post’s showbiz-driven Page Six is also reporting Corson’s impending move from New York to WB’s headquarters in Los Angeles.
And there will be additional major movement within the upper echelon of the Warner Music Group executive ranks at the end of this week — as was previously reported, Max Lousada, Chairman & CEO of Warner Music UK is set to become Warner Music Group’s CEO of Recorded Music on October 1. As the Variety piece says, “Current [WBR] Chairman and CEO Cameron Strang is expected to stay on in some capacity.”
Corson got his start as an intern at IRS Records in the early ’80s before joining A&M, where he was heavily involved in launching Soundgarden. That was followed by stops at Capitol, Columbia, Arista and J Records; Corson and RCA CEO Peter Edge took the reins at RCA in 2011. You are advised to watch this space for further official details.
