Rosenworcel Re-nominated To FCC
The Los Angeles Times reports President Trump intends to nominate Democrat Jessica Rosenworcel to return to the FCC after her term lapsed at the end of last year because of political maneuvering. Rosenworcel’s initial five-year term expired in May 2016, but she was allowed to stay on until the end of the year as Democrats pushed Senate Republican leaders to allow a confirmation vote after President Obama re-nominated her. The White House announced the coming nomination of Rosenworcel, a supporter of tough net neutrality rules for online traffic, late Monday night. If confirmed by the Senate, Rosenworcel would become only the second FCC commissioner to serve nonconsecutive terms.
In response to this development, a clearly delighted NAB President and CEO Gordon Smith said, “NAB is delighted to hear that President Trump will re-nominate Jessica Rosenworcel to the FCC. Commissioner Rosenworcel is supremely qualified for another FCC term, having demonstrated her public service credentials and full command of telecommunications issues during her Commission tenure. NAB strongly supports her re-nomination and confirmation.”
