Sky Daniels Announces Retirement

• After eight years (or 29,120 hours) of leading the development of Southern California’s leading Triple A radio station, 88.5 KCSN/Los Angeles and KSBR/Mission Viejo, CA, a service of California State University, Northridge and Saddleback College, Sky Daniels announced his retirement as General Manager and Program Director, citing health issues as a factor.

In making the announcement, Daniels stated, “I was planning to retire prior to joining KCSN-FM in 2011. The opportunity to build a radio station that would put artist development first in a market as influential as Los Angeles was something I knew was vital. It has been an honor to serve musician’s needs for the last eight years in developing a platform that recognized and supported their livelihood.”

Daniels continued, “I want to thank Karen Kearns, KCSN’s original General Manager, as well as Doctors Harry Hillenbrand, Cynthia Rawitch andDianne Harrison for allowing me to lead this endeavor. It has been an incredible challenge, given the fact that KCSN is the lowest-powered FM in the Los Angeles market, to have it grow into an internationally respected tastemaker radio station. The small, but dedicated, staff of 88.5FM deserves great appreciation for their tireless efforts. Turning 800 watts into such a recognized entity was a remarkable feat. They have my eternal respect.” In closing, Daniels said, “In retirement, I plan to be active as a musician’s advocate, as well as pursuing ownership opportunities in broadcasting.”

Daniels’ lengthy radio history includes noteworthy stints at such legendary stations as WLUP/ChicagoKMET/Los Angeles, KFOG/San Francisco, KISW/Seattle and others. He’s also been a label exec at UMG and Sony Music and National VP of Entertainment at Best Buy Corp. He was also GM of the late, great Radio & Records back in the day. Going forward, Daniels can be reached at 818-692-6066 or skyboy724@yahoo.com.
