Taylor Tapped As Pres./CEO of Cox Enterprises

Alexander C. Taylor has been tapped as the next President & Chief Executive Officer of Cox Enterprises, effective Jan. 1, 2018. Taylor is currently Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Cox Enterprises and he will succeed current President & CEO, John Dyer, who is retiring in December after 40 years with the company. Taylor currently oversees Cox Communications, Cox Automotive and Cox Media Group, as well as the company’s long-term growth and investment plans, and is the great-grandson of company founder Gov. James M. Cox. Dyer and Taylor will continue to serve on the Board of Directors of Cox Enterprises.

The announcement of Taylor’s impending elevation came from Cox Enterprises Chairman Jim Kennedy, who said, “It’s especially meaningful for me that a fourth-generation Cox family member will lead the company my grandfather started in 1898. Alex has a deep understanding of our company and its culture. Cox has thrived in business because we believe in doing good and being a contributor to society. Alex shares this commitment to our employees and communities.”

Taylor began his career at Cox in May of 2000 as a reporter for the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, and has gone on to hold numerous executive positions within the company’s divisions, including SVP of Field Operations for Cox Communications and EVP of Cox Media Group, where he oversaw its largest television, radio, newspaper and digital properties. He also led the creation of the company’s first cross-platform newsroom and served as Cox Enterprises’ Executive Vice President of Strategic Investments.

• Concurrent with Taylor’s elevation came word that Marybeth Leamer, EVP of Human Resources and Administration will retire in the summer of 2018. She will be succeeded by Jill Campbell, EVP and Chief Operations Officer for Cox Communications, the company’s cable and broadband division. As part of this transition, Campbell will become Cox Enterprises’ Executive Vice President on June 1, 2017 and succeed Leamer in 2018.
