• Evans Broadcast Group in Reno, NV has flipped Classic Rock KURK to Mainstream AC as KRFN (Fun 101), playing “The Best Mix of the ’80s, ’90s and Today.” The new station is under the command of OM/PD Doug Daniels, who will also do the morning show. Daniels’ wife, Denise Daniels is doing middays, and market vet Rick Carter is doing afternoon drive and is the cluster’s new Production Director. The syndicated John Tesh Show is on evenings.
Former KURK PD Jay Slater is now doing evenings on Country sister KWFP (92.1 The Wolf) and former KURK midday personality Kathleen Speakman is a utility personality on both stations. • Consultant-to-the-stars Bob Hamilton has just introduced his latest project — WXVA (The New 102.9 Valley FM), owned by Winchester Radio LLC and servicing the good citizens of Winchester and Fort Royal, VA, Martinsburg, WV and Hagerstown, MD.
The station had been a Classic Hits outlet. The new format is described by Executive Manager Ted Schober as “Adult Hits with favorites from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s, and targeting adults 35-64.” The morning show is now hosted by market vet Joe Sanchez.
