DeBella Earns Victory For Vets

Beasley Classic Rock WMGK/Philadelphia and morning icon John DeBella are proud to announce that the 11th Annual John DeBella Veterans Radiothon just raised over $154,000 to benefit local vets via the Veterans Multi-Service Center. The VMC’s mission is to provide services, programs, opportunities and advancement to veterans.

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney appeared live on-air last Friday, June 16, to show his support and encourage listeners to make donations. In addition, rock stars including Joe Walsh, The Who, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Peter Frampton donated items that were used in a series of eBay auctions in conjunction with the Radiothon. WMGK advertisers also showed their generosity by making large donations, and DeBella’s wife, Lisa, along with an anonymous donor, also made a significant contribution to this year’s Radiothon — in memory of Lisa’s father, decorated World War II veteran Harold Kapp, they pledged to match every $100 contribution made, which resulted in a donation of $30,000!

“Once again our incredible listeners and generous sponsors proved that supporting our brave veterans is as important to them as it is to the WMGK staff,” said DeBella. “We are honored to be able to serve and pay tribute to them with this annual event.” Pictured, (l-r): Tim Williams of the Philadelphia VMC, John DeBella, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney and WMGK’s Steve Vassalotti and Dave Gibson.
