Just Getting Warmed Up

• Apparently 29 years of waking up the Quad Cities is just an appetizer for Greg Dwyer and Bill Michaels, who just applied random Sharpie squiggles to separate legally-binding cocktail napkins to further extend their three-decade run in mornings on Townsquare Classic Rock WXLP (97X)/Quad Cities, IA.

Dwyer and Michaels has been the market’s leading morning show since they started in 1990, and this extension will keep them in place through 2023. Michaels said, “We appreciate the level of confidence and trust Townsquare Media has put in the Dwyer & Michaels show. It’s really nice to not have to be concerned with a change of address.” Dwyer cracked, “Dwyer is unavailable for comment. While Bill is brownnosing the company brass, I’ll be prepping tomorrow’s show.” Michaels retorted, “He usually doesn’t get this excited.”

Paying the duo a mostly sincere compliment, Townsquare SVP of Programming Kurt Johnson said, “I’d listen to their show even if Townsquare didn’t pay me to… Probably.” Hey, but seriously… Johnson added, “We are beyond delighted that Dwyer & Michaels will rawk the Quad Cities for years to come on 97X. We’re committed to great local radio and Greg and Bill are two of the best that have ever done it.”
