Stew Rides For Those Who Can’t
• There are a lot of people in the Meruelo Media building in Burbank supporting Stew Herrera as he prepares to embark on a challenging eight-day charity bike ride — this will be his 11th year participating in the Arthritis Foundation’s California Coast Classic from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
Herrera, now in his 29th year as on-air host and Imaging/Creative Services Director for 95.5 KLOS/Los Angeles, says every time he takes on the 530+ mile yearly journey the kids who are stricken with this insidious disease are especially top of mind, as he said, “There are 60 million people affected by arthritis here in the U.S., and about 300,000 are kids. To see their suffering is heartbreaking. Juvenile Arthritis is no joke. It takes many forms, like rheumatoid, osteo, lupus… but it always boils down to kids that should be running around being kids, who can sometimes barely stand. We need to find a cure, and that’s what my ride helps to do.”
Meruelo VP of Programming Keith Cunningham hailed Herrera’s upcoming mission, commenting, “Just the thought of pedaling even 20 miles makes me ache. 530+? Better him than me… But seriously, it’s a great cause and he’s hyper-driven on this. We’re all really proud of what Stew does every year.”
Stew (pictured here, center, lovingly bookended by KLOS afternoon duo Doug “Sluggo” Roberts and Kevin Ryder) kicks off his marathon mission of love on Saturday, Sept. 30 and will arrive back home on Saturday Oct. 7.
