Entercom Drives Classic Hits To D.C.

• Entercom finally answered the music question surrounding the future of former Hot AC WIAD (94.7 Fresh FM)/Washington, D.C., flipping the station to Classic Hits as 94.7 The Drive. According to the official release, the station will now “provide the Capital Region with expertly curated Classic Hits, including rock, pop and R&B hits from the 1980s, as well as mass appeal titles from the 1970s and 1990s.” After an awesome produced opening, The Drive officially launched at 5pm ET today with “Let’s Go Crazy” by Prince.

“Washington D.C. is the only major market without a Classic Hits station,” said Phil Zachary, SVP/Market Manager, Entercom D.C. “With Entercom’s track record in the format from New York to L.A., we have the wherewithal to capitalize on this unique opportunity. It’s no stretch to launch with a high level of confidence when Pat PaxtonJim Ryan and Jeff Sottolano are part of the brain trust.”

• And there’s more good news: veteran programmer Steve Davis, who had piloted Fresh FM, remains firmly aboard and now takes the reins of 94.7 The Drive. “Steve is a superstar and can do any format,” said Ryan, Entercom SVP of Classic Hits. “He will make the Drive a huge station in Washington!” RAMP has also confirmed that former Fresh FM personality Darik Christopher remains aboard in a capacity TBA.
