It’s News: Just Talk

• Cumulus Media’s WYAY/Atlanta has dropped the “News” portion of its format descriptor, completing its gradual transition from “News,” to “News-Talk” to just plain “Talk” — say hello to The New Talk 106.7, “Where Atlanta Comes to Talk.” The news was initially reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution‘s longtime media journalist, Rodney Ho.

The New Talk 106.7 weekday lineup includes The Shannon Burke Show from 9am-noon; The Kimmer Show, featuring iconic Atlanta personality Kim “The Kimmer” Peterson from noon-3pm; and The Brian Joyce Show from 3-6pm. The station plans to announce a new morning show in the next few weeks, replacing Rob Stadler.

Cumulus Atlanta VP/Market Manager Sean Shannon believes the change from News-Talk to Talk Radio will be a breath of fresh air for Atlantans, as he commented, “Talk has become the domain of dogma where hosts are advancing an agenda. The New Talk 106.7 will be a place for honest discourse where our hosts have a perspective, not an agenda.” PD Tom Lee said, “We are committed to a unique, fearless and spirited dialogue on current events and all issues that impact the lives of our listeners. We’ll focus on live, local and relevant topics with strong opinions from some of the nation’s greatest Talk Radio hosts.”
