Boylan Signs Off At KDKA
After nearly four decades of anchoring and reporting the news for CBS Radio’s KDKA (NewsRadio 1020)/Pittsburgh, Barbara Boylan left the station on Friday, August 4, closing the book on a successful 36-year run. In a farewell staff memo obtained by RAMP, Boylan said, in part, “It wasn’t an easy decision to leave but sometimes change is necessary — and this is one of those times. I don’t know what I will do next. I’m going to take some time to think about it. After so much time as a newsperson, it’s easy to forget there are other opportunities to consider. Having said that, let me now say, ‘Thank you.'” She added, “It has been a rare honor and privilege to work with the smartest, funniest, kindest and most talented people in the industry. You all have made me a better reporter, a better anchor, and, more importantly, a better person.”
As the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports, Boylan arrived in Pittsburgh in 1978 after working in television and radio in her native Ohio and in western New York. She joined KDKA in July 1981 and has been a reporter and anchor ever since.
Michael Young, SVP/Market Manager for CBS Radio Pittsburgh told the Post-Gazette, “Barbara was part of the fabric of KDKA. I thought she had a great work ethic, she always wanted to get it right, and was someone who is very, very dedicated and got a great deal of enjoyment covering stories.” We understand that Boylan’s position will be covered from within the KDKA news department.
