WECK Ready For Its Closeup
Last week we reported that locally owned WECK (AM 1230/FM 102.9)/Buffalo, NY was transitioning from Adult Standards to a live and local, full-service direction, effective July 10, with 24-hour news, well-known local personalities and locally programmed music. Market legend and Buffalo Broadcasters Association Hall-of-Famer John Zach was hired as News Director and morning news anchor. Buddy Shula, Owner & President of Radio One Buffalo, LLC has now revealed the station’s new line-up, and it’s completely stacked with certified market icons — Gail Ann Huber (ex-WYRK, WHTT) joins Tom Donahue as morning co-host. Donahue is a Buffalo Broadcasters Association Hall-of-Famer, whose credits include WGR, WKBW and WHTT. Good Morning Buffalo with Tom, Gail and John Zach will include local news, traffic, weather and sports.
Jon Summers, a longtime Buffalo radio and TV personality will host 9am-noon, followed by Buffalo Broadcasting Hall-of-Famer Harv Moore from noon-3pm. Moore is the former co-host of the Taylor & Moore Breakfast Flakes show on WYSL & WPHD. His former on-air partner, Robert W. Taylor is now WECK’s imaging voice. The afternoon show will be piloted by Mike Jacobs (ex-WHTT, WYRK, WKSE and WEDG). Friday afternoons will spotlight 40-year Buffalo radio and TV legend Danny Neaverth, who will host “Danny Moves Your Friday Fanny,” a slice-of-life feature with humor, news and music.
Owner Buddy Shula will host the night show. Shula has more than 30 years of experience in the Buffalo market on-air, in marketing and in sales. Before purchasing WECK, Shula was an Account Exec for Entercom Buffalo and hosted a business show on WBEN. “Buffalo’s Very Own WECK, will be just that — Buffalo’s radio station,” said Shula. “Trusted friends who Buffalonians have known and loved for many years are now at home here. We’re so proud to do what radio does best — serving the local community. Radio’s future depends on this kind of commitment.”
