Radio One Playing Houston Hits
Radio One Houston jumped headlong into the Top 40 battle with Cumulus Media’s heritage KRBE yesterday when it flipped KROI (Boom 92) from Classic Hip Hop to Top 40 as 92.1 Radio NOW. The newly reimagined station, as described by OM/PD Terri Thomas, “will reflect emerging music, trends and culture for the NOW generation of 18-34-year-old millennials here in Houston.” 92.1 Radio NOW launched with 92 hours of commercial-free music and will feature artists such as Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Bruno Mars, Shawn Mendes, Chainsmokers, Twenty One Pilots, The Weeknd, Nick Jonas, etc.
You may recall that last Friday CBS Radio Houston made the decision to flip KKHH (Hot 95.7) from Top 40 to Adult Hits as 95.7 The Spot, leaving some open space for another hit music format. As Gary Spurgeon, VP/GM of Radio One Houston said, “With recent changes in the Top 40 radio landscape in the Houston market, we believe that Houston is ready for this new sound.” Radio One SVP of Programming, Jay Stevens said, “We’re excited about this opportunity to bring a fresh innovative approach to Top 40 Radio in H-Town.”
