Scotty Kay Chooses Fatherhood

• On Tuesday of this week we ran a classified ad for Cumulus Top 40 KLIF-FM (Hot 93.3)/Dallas, promoting a rare opening for a morning show co-host… and now we know why — in a deeply personal Facebook post, Scotty Kay, co-host of Scotty K & Bret Mega Mornings announced his intention to leave the show and relocate back to Chicago to once again be a full-time dad to his son, Chance. Kay described in detail the anguish — and personal growth — he has experienced over the past five years since he left Chicago — and his son — to take a radio job at iHeartMedia Top 40 WWPW/Atlanta, followed by their move to Dallas in August 2016.

“What I didn’t realize at the time was that this decision would start a complete evolution of who I am as a human,” Scotty wrote. “I’ve learned new skills, developed my emotional intelligence, and connected with people in ways I never thought possible. I found the strength to fail, and most importantly, I found the strength to continue moving forward. All along the way, I continued to strive to be the best dad possible, despite the miles that separated us.”

And so, Scotty made the momentous decision that he and his girlfriend Shelby and their dogs will be moving to Chicago in August. And now, the obvious question: “What about Bret?” Scotty said, “When I started to discuss moving back to Chicago, Bret supported me every step of the way; his answer was always the same, ‘I just want my friend to be happy.’ We built the show together, and I know he will take it to new heights with his unique abilities and incomparable talents. I say this with every ounce of my truth, to underestimate Bret, in ANY scenario, would be a HUGE MISTAKE. Thank you for being the best friend a guy could have.”

In conclusion, Scotty said, “I’d like to thank everyone at Cumulus who have all supported the show from the beginning. I can’t say enough good things about the leadership of Dan Bennett, and the guidance of Mike McVay, Doug Hammond, Leslie Whittle and Sid Kelly.”
