Radio To The Rescue For Puerto Rico

Empire Broadcasting Triple A WRNR/Annapolis, MD will host a daylong benefit concert on Oct. 21 to raise funds to help aid Puerto Rico in its recovery from the devastating effects of Hurricane Maria. The “East-Port-A-Ricans for Puerto Rico” concert will take place at the Eastport Democratic Club and feature performances from Swampcandy, Van Meter, Alexander Peters and RCA recording artist Moon Taxi. The Nashville indie rock band will kick off a full afternoon of free music at 12pm, before headlining a sold-out show at Washington DC’s 9:30 Club.

Explaining the ironclad reasoning for the benefit show, WRNR PD Bob Waugh said, “We couldn’t stand idly by after the island suffered so much destruction. The support of our amazing community, especially our local musicians, has been amazing. When we approached Moon Taxi with the concept, it was an easy decision for them to come on board.” Indeed, WRNR, Moon Taxi, the other performers and the Eastport Democratic Club have absorbed all of the costs involved with staging this event in order to provide free admission for the concert, but a $10.00 donation will be requested at the door for the Hurricane Maria Recovery Fund — 100% of the donations received for that fund will be invested to rebuild Puerto Rico through the 13 centers run by the Boys and Girls Club on the island and in the underserved areas in the Northwest of the island.
