WLLZ Rolling In Detroit Again
• After an hour of stunting with a loop of AC/DC’s “It’s A Long Way To The Top,” iHeartMedia Detroit proudly announced the rebirth of WLLZ (106.7 Detroit’s Wheels), “The New Generation of Classic Rock.” The station — now sporting those iconic Motor City call letters that once reigned in the market from 1980-1995 launched at 5pm local time Friday, replacing WDTW (ALT 106.7). The good news — ALT PD Casey Krukowski has seamlessly transitioned into the PD chair at WLLZ.
106.7 Detroit’s Wheels will feature a new generation of Classic Rock including songs from such artists as AC/DC, Nirvana, Guns N’ Roses, Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne and Pearl Jam, etc., presented by an elite squadron of Detroit’s most beloved on-air personalities including Trudi Daniels, Doug Podell and Bill McAllister, along with other legendary Detroit rock radio personalities.
“Detroit’s Wheels is back,” said Paul Corvino, Region President for iHeartMedia Detroit. “The attitude, music and personalities featured on 106.7 Detroit’s Wheels is the perfect formula and will contribute to building a great audience for our advertisers.”
Tony Travatto, Region Senior Vice President of Programming for iHeartMedia Detroit, commented, “The people now have a unique destination for rock in Detroit. There’s an unfulfilled audience in Detroit radio and this new station will quench that thirst. We are excited to change the rock landscape in the Motor City!”
Now, let’s meet the illustrious full-time crew of 106.7 Detroit’s Wheels — Bill McAllister (6-10am); Trudi Daniels (10am-3pm); Doug Podell (3-7pm) and Casey Krukowski (7pm-midnight). McAllister has been on the air in Detroit for 17 years, most recently in mornings on WXYT (97-1 The Ticket). Podell’s lengthy Detroit history includes stints at WWWW (W4), WRIF and WCSX. Interestingly, he was also the on-air MD, and for a time, PD of the original 98.7FM WLLZ. Trudi Daniels has been on Detroit rock radio for more than a quarter-century — 22 of those with The Drew & Mike Show on the legendary WRIF. She later co-hosted the morning show on Beasley Classic Rock WCSX.
