Dan Sileo: Like It Never Happened

• Well, that was fast — after just four days on the air at iHeartMedia’s KGME (Fox Sports 910 AM)/Phoenix, afternoon personality Dan Sileo has already gone M.I.A. and all evidence of his existence has magically vanished from the station website. The schedule now lists The Odd Couple w/ Chris Broussard & Rob Parker from 4-7pm.

It was Thursday, August 29 when iHeartMedia initially announced the hire of Sileo, a former college football star-turned-pro football player who made the transition to radio over 20 years ago, working in San Francisco, Tampa, Miami and most recently, San Diego, where he worked at the now defunct XEPRS-AM (The Mighty 1090) and Entercom Sports-Talk KWFN (97.3 The Fan).

However…shortly after Sileo’s hire was announced, TheAthletic.com published a story noting that Sileo had been fired three times by Florida radio stations in an 18-month span from 2012-13 for racist or sexist comments made on-air or on his personal Twitter account.

For their part, the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes, whose games are moving to KGME this season, expressed their unhappiness with iHeart’s decision to hire Sileo, and made their feelings known — in a candid statement sent to RAMP, the Coyotes’ organization said, “When we became aware that Fox Sports 910 had hired Dan Sileo, we immediately reached out to the station’s management to express our deep concern regarding Mr. Sileo’s abhorrent comments. Our promotion of inclusivity is deeply rooted into the fabric of who we are as an organization and we have no tolerance for racism, sexism, anti-Semitism or any other discriminatory behavior.”

RAMP has reached out to Fox Sports 910 PD Aaron Trimmer for an update. Stay tuned.
