Pros On The Loose

• iHeartMedia has parted company with three high profile players in the company’s Greensboro-High Point-Winston-Salem market — SVP of Programming Rich McMillan, Gary Nolan, PD of AC WMAG and Matt Pencola, an air personality on Mainstream Rock WVBZ (105.7 Man Up!) — as rumors of more companywide downsizing begin to circulate.

McMillan (left), who told us he was planning on retiring later this year anyway, landed in Greensboro five years ago as OM of the cluster — WMAG, Top 40 WMKS (100.3 Kiss FM), WVBZ (105.7 Man Up!), Country WTQR (Q104.1) and News-Talk-Sports WPTI — and was later upped to SVP of Programming. Before that he programmed Clear Channel sisters WMJJ (Magic 96.5) and 105.1 Hallelujah FM/Birmingham, AL. McMillan joined the company in 2001 and notably spent over a decade in Miami as OM/PD of Clear Channel Classic Rock WBGG and Rhythmic AC WMIA. His four-decade programming journey has also taken him to WLS/Chicago as well as the former Love 94/Miami.

• Nolan (left) had been in place since August 2016. Before that he was OM of the five-station Cumulus cluster in Pensacola, FL and PD of Cumulus Classic Hits KCMO and News/Talk KCMO-AM/Kansas City. Over the course of his radio career Nolan has also served as OM of Clear Channel’s clusters in Panama City, FL and Binghamton, NY and his earlier programming stops include WLTW/New York, KOSI/Denver, WLTE/Minneapolis, KRWM/Seattle and WTLT/Ft. Myers, FL. Nolan can be reached at garyn72000@yahoo.com.

• Changes inside the iHeartMedia broadcast complex in Charleston, SC — Brian Cleary (left), PD/morning talent on iHeartMedia AC WXLY (Y102.5) annexes bonus PD duties for Country sister WEZL. He succeeds Tyler Reese, who left earlier this week as the two PD positions were consolidated. Cleary has been with the cluster for nine years and previously programmed WEZL from 2012-2015.

Reese was named PD of WEZL in August 2015, earning the transfer from the APD/MD spot at sister WSIX/Nashville. His previous stops include WKKT/Charlotte and WMAD/Madison. Reese is now actively seeking his next radio adventure and can be reached at 608-630-5624 or treese963@gmail.com.
