Apple Music Launches ALT CTRL
• Apple Music just launched ALT CTRL, which is described as “a new global playlist spotlighting the best new music being released across the Alternative genre, hand-picked by Apple Music’s expert curators.” ALT CTRL — formerly known as The A-List: Alternative — is where you’ll find the best of those new left-of-center tunes.
The signature playlist art for ALT CTRL will feature a different artist each week, timed to new releases from marquee artists. ALT CTRL’s inaugural cover stars are L.A.-based sister trio HAIM, who just released their subdued, minimalist jam “Summer Girl.” [Ed. note: the video was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson]
Danielle Haim explained the origins of the song, telling Apple Music, “I remember being in some faraway town on tour and feeling a moment of inspiration. I opened up GarageBand, started messing around with it, and came up with this weird bassline. I wrote the verse super-quickly, came up with the drum part — and cranked the reverb.”
